Half Bean Sidhe and half berserker, Sorcha trained over centuries to become the perfect warrior. She agrees to work with local weres to investigate a new type of zombie capable of coordinated attacks—and is partnered with Kayden. He’s strong, darkly handsome and completely unafraid of her. And his kiss fills her with insatiable desire instead of bloodlust.
As Kayden and Sorcha work together, their attraction grows and their deepest scars are bared to each other. But with the force behind the deadly new zombies poised to overwhelm the city, Sorcha can only pray that the next time her bloodlust strikes, Kayden isn’t among the fallen…
Sing for the Dead Book Trailer
Thanks so much for stopping by the Authors' Cafe today, PJ. I'm very excited to host you and your book, Sing for the Dead!
Okay, I see you've got your café mocha and red velvet cupcake, so let's get right to the interview. No, wait - I've got to go get one of those cupcakes. Just a minute, I'll be right back . . . Okay, now we can start the interview.
At what point in your life did you realized that being an author was no longer going to be just a dream but a career you were going to turn into reality?
Just after my divorce. I decided reading books wasn’t a stupid hobby and writing them wasn’t a waste of time (things my ex-husband was always telling me.)
Blasphemy! Which of your characters is most like you?
There’s a little bit of me in every one of my heroes and heroines, probably, but I think Kaitlyn Darah of the Triton Experiment series reflects my personality and flaws the most. She’s definitely the closest to my heart and the hardest for me to write because of it.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which character from Sing for the Dead would you want with you?
The brownie. He’d be incredible company and help in finding survival necessities.
That makes sense! So, where do you write?
Everywhere! LOL. I travel quite a lot for the day job so I often find myself writing in hotels, airports…wherever my travels take me.
Sounds exciting! Do you have any “rituals” you go through before you write?
Not before every writing session. Sometimes I do things like a set of pushups or a set of squats to wake myself up after a long day before I try to write.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) of Sing for the Dead to write and why?
The chapter introducing Ollie and his friends was a lot of fun because it was inspired by childhood memories. Though I loved building the world more and the relationship between Kayden and Sorcha, the scene with the boys made me chuckle the most.
How did you come up with the title?
It was originally titled Kiss Me (so the series would have been Bite Me, Kiss Me, Shoot Me). But the Carina Press marketing team recommended a change to the titles because titles so similar could be confusing. It was a good point.
After brainstorming with my roomie, we came up with several title combinations, but Sing for the Dead resonated most strongly with me because of Sorcha’s half Baen Sidhe nature.
What would YOU like your readers to know about this book or you in general?
Sing for the Dead is the first book in which I’ve created characters so closely inspired by real life people, or in this case, childhood memories that have all grown up by now.
What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Make connections with nifty people. Inspire each other, encourage each other, instigate creative shenanigans. Drive each other to do more than simply create, get your stuff out there. An author who stays in a vacuum, remains in a vacuum and so does their work.
Do you have a favorite author?
Many! Anne McCaffrey, Anne Bishop, Patricia Briggs, Robert Heinlein, and Terry Brooks are all on my faithful re-read shelf.
What is your favorite quote?
“Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” ― L.M. Montgomery
What genre of books do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy science fiction and fantasy, other paranormal romances, contemporary romance, historical romance, and steampunk. I read a lot of different genres, and mostly, I try to be sure to be reading a genre other than whatever I’m currently writing.
What’s the most amusing thing that’s every happened to you?
Life doesn’t stop surprising me with entertaining situations. If you follow me on Twitter, you might be familiar with “PJ’s Airport Hijinx” <- The stuff people say and do at airports never gets old.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Watching anime with my roomie while knitting and crocheting. I also like to explore and try new restaurants. Napping is a wonderful thing too.
If all TV shows were real, what show (all time) would you most like to live in?
Firefly!
Yes! **Virtual Fist Bump with Explosion** That's one of my all time favorite shows too. I have the complete (and only) season on DVD. Stupid Fox Network!!!
And now it's time for some . . .
Party dress or blue jeans? Blue jeans
Plotter or Panster? Plotter
Print or e-Book? Print at home, e-Book when travelling.
Coastal walks or extreme sports? Coastal walks
Cookies or cupcakes? Cupcakes!
Super hero or super villain? Super hero
If I had a free afternoon I’d . . . write more.
Peanut Butter: Crunchy, Creamy, or I hate peanut butter and am addicted to Nutella. Creamy <.< … >.>
You suddenly realize you live in a haunted house. Do you:
- Run screaming for the door.
- Bravely go to a church, load up on holy water and try to get rid of the ghost.
- Set up ghost hunting equipment to capture phenomenon.
- Call in the Ghost Adventures crew so that you can ogle the lead guy Zac’s amazingly stiff hair when you’re not ogling his….physical attributes.
- Deny you have a ghost and just let it scare the bejesus out of your visitors.
None of the above. I really love Cordelia’s way of living in her haunted apartment.
Could you tell us five random facts about yourself?
- I’ve studied mixed martial arts, specifically Muay Thia, Jun Fan/Jeet Kun Do, Kali Silat, and a tiny bit of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
- I’m seriously afraid of spiders. My usual reaction is to squash them flatter than dead, but recently I have been controlling the impulse if the spider can be safely relocated outside in honor of my friendship with Lia Habel.
- I play Protoss in StarCraft II.
- Most of the time, I’m Alliance in WoW but occasionally I play Horde for a change of pace.
- I want to cosplay as Kirito from Sword Art Online.
Well, this has been just an absolutely fabulous author interview - Thanks so much for stopping by to visit today PJ!!!

Born and raised in the North East, PJ Schnyder spent her childhood pretending to study for the SATs by reading every fantasy and sci-fi novel she could borrow from the local and school libraries. She scored fairly high in the verbal portion.
She was introduced to the wonderful world of romance a decade later by her best friend at an anime convention in Seattle.
She now lives somewhere temperate watching the seasons go by with her two dogs and super stealthy ninja kitty, writing her stories and gaming.
Awesome Prizes: A Sing for the Dead spiral notebook, PJ pen, signed cover flats for Sing for the Dead and Bite Me, and a custom bookmark with one of my favorite quotes from Sing for the Dead, plus a PJ Schnyder USB flash drive.
