Jake has been deaf and blind since birth. His disability has cut him off from the world, but beneath his isolated exterior, is a smart, sweet guy with a dry sense of humor. Despite the odds, he’s highly educated, but at 26, he’s gotten stuck in a rut, with few friends and no clear career plans. Until a sweet-smelling girl introduces herself to him unexpectedly, and opens up a whole new world to him.
Jake is more intelligent, more genuine than anyone she has met before, and for the first time Kassie starts to feel like her life has some direction. But as their friendship deepens into something more, the difficulty in communicating with each other only grows, and it seems like everyone they know thinks their relationship won’t work. How can they come to a deeper understanding of each other, and find a future together?

Why Read About A Disabled Character?
Blind men make the best lovers: It's been scientifically proven.
I know, we all read romance for a little bit of escape and fantasy. So maybe you find it surprising that a guy with a disability like Jake would be the love interest. Maybe you think reading about disability is depressing. Not true! Disabled characters make for interesting stories worth reading. Here's why:
It's original: We all have types of romances we prefer. Personally, I like stories that are a little different, that don't follow the genre pattern to the letter. I'm always looking for something that breaks the mold.
Imperfect characters: For the same reason, I'm bored by perfect characters, model-beautiful, fabulously wealthy, beloved by all. I'd much rather read about characters who have genuine struggles. The guy who has been passed over until the right girl comes along who recognizes something special in him.
It's real: Fantasy is great but too much to me is like sugar overload. I'd much rather read about real people. Disability is a reality in many people's lives. And most of them don't experience their lives as depressing, hopeless or tragic. A sense of humor is essential!

Personally, I don't know anyone who is disabled, but I found the idea of a disabled romantic hero extremely unique and (oddly) appealing. To communicate solely through touch seems both romantic and sensual to me, and this book did not disappoint!Jake and Kassie are both isolated in their own ways. Jake is 26, lives with his parents, doesn't have a job and only leaves his house to attend deaf/blind events with his interpreter.Kassie became interested in learning sign language because she felt she needed a purpose in life. She's stuck in a boring job and she continues to grieve for her father who died when she was still in college.When Kassie happens to attend a deaf/blind event and sees Jake standing by himself (his interpreter is late), she decides to approach him and say hello. What she didn't know at the time was that, beneath Jake's isolation and aloof demeanor, was an amazingly smart, sweet and funny guy. As she gets to know him however, these qualities shine through.As the story unfolds, both Jake and Kassie find reasons to work through the difficulties of communicating their feelings for each other, and there were several times I laughed out loud at some of Jake's comments.Love in Touch is an amazing story full of emotion, humor, romance, courage, determination and unforgettable characters. I highly recommend this book as an awesome read and give it a 5 Cup Cafe Review!
