Synopsis:

In a world of danger and deception, she walks the line--between seductive passion and scandalous murder...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all--and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire--and a suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about--except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Review:

I'm sure by now everyone knows that J.D. Robb is actually Nora Roberts. That being said, the In Death Series is about as far from a Nora Roberts romance as you can get, although there is a romance intertwined with the mystery and suspense of this book.

This first book of the series is set in the year 2058, and takes place mostly in New York City. The futuristic advances are extremely plausible, with air cars, off-world travel, soy-based foods and autochefs. Pizza is still around though, as is Pepsi and donuts.

The main character of the story is Eve Dallas, an extremely intelligent, honest, tough and independent homicide detective who's childhood was a living hell - A hell most people wouldn't have survived. Eve's life is dedicated to finding justice for the murder victims in the cases she takes on.

During the murder investigation in Naked in Death, Eve's prime suspect is Rourke (no given name), a man who has clawed his way up from obscure poverty and abuse on the streets of Ireland to a position of wealth and power that is way beyond multi-billions. Rourke is a completely irresistible character - Dark haired, blue eyed and a beautifully handsome man with the lilt of the Irish in his voice. The sparks that fly when Eve and Rourke meet almost set the pages of the book on fire with their immediate chemistry, and Nora's deft talent for description keeps the love story exciting and the suspense a page turner.

The secondary characters are also extremely entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny at times, in fact I'd say the secondary characters add another dimension to the story that help to make it a truly entertaining read. You really become invested in the story and the characters of this book.

I highly recommend Naked in Death, and I'm looking forward to reading and reviewing all the books in this series.

 Excellent (A Must Read!)
